For dark brown sofas in a sitting room, it is recommended that you use a light yellow color such as the color that resembles the light color of popcorn. This will not only complement the darkness of the sofas but it will also make the room look bright and sunny. The contrast between the dark and light will not be as stark as you may think, it will complement it well.

Another color that will work well is an off white or slightly beige color if you are going for a minimalist appearance.

If you're trying to figure out which color is going to suit your sitting room best, then what you can do is take a picture of your room and upload it to the website RoomVues, which can be accessed by clicking the following link: www.roomvues.com/ Take a picture of the room that you are painting and upload it to the Makeover section. In this section you can browse through other people's paint problems to see if you have any tips and then you can just wait for other people to get back to you about you own problems. Once you have painted your room completely finished, you can upload a finished photo to contribute to the world's largest paint palette.

If you're lacking inspiration when it comes to picking paint colors or how to decorate a particular room in the house then you should take a look at RoomVue's Showroom Gallery which is home to dozens of different photographs. Browse at your own leisure and see if there is anything that catches your eye and inspires an idea about your own home.

This website also has a Color Help section which is full of top tips and advice on how to pick the colors that best complement your room and the furniture in it.

I have brown couches and painted my walls (3 of them) popcorn yellow (it is pretty on the wall don't knock it) and 1 wall medium to light blue and it looks great.  You can then add dark accent shelves on the blue wall or gold trim pictures, it makes them pop.  On the Yellow walls I placed black and maroon or brown accents or pitcure frames.

If your room receives a lot of natural light, why not take advantage of it and add sunflowers real or artificial to your rust furniture room? This will add life to your living room. Rust is a great fall color but it also pairs well with yellow. Warm up the walls with a warm tone so that the reflection from white walls do not become too blinding.

I think a silvery blue with dark brown accents. Or Straight up silver gray with a small amount of black accent would be very nice.

I would paint them a soft light butter yellow - it would make the room look bright and sunny and complement both the brown and the red
