Rubber paint is a specially-formed, chlorinated substance that aims to withstand water and other tough conditions. Usually, paint companies that sell rubber paint usually specialise in helping their customers to decorate their yachts, boats or swimming pools with a long-lasting alternative that won’t wear down over time. The redeeming features of this formula include how the paint can be non-slip, meaning rubber paint used to paint a deck floor won’t be a safety hazard over time.

One of the worst nightmares of any swimming pool owner can be the risk of mould and fungus that can ruin the cleanliness of their pool. As rubber paint is resistant to both of these unwanted growths and dries very quickly, investing in this option can reduce the costs of maintaining the pool over the long term.

Just like normal types of paint, rubber-based options come in a variety of colours. It can be more expensive per tub than the standard products you will see in a DIY store, but you have to remember that the formula in rubber paint is far more advanced and can withstand contact with oil, salt water and even abrasive acids and chemicals without its integrity being compromised.

If you’re looking for some of your own paint to use, make sure that you check the reputation of the vendor before you click the ‘Purchase’ button. Also, going with the lowest-priced option may not be in your best interests, especially if you soon discover that the rubber paint was of a poor quality, or that you could have got free shipping from another paint company that would have saved you money. If you’ve invested a lot of money into a boat or a pool, what’s the point in not protecting it against the elements with rubber paint?

Rubber paint is a durable, creamy, brushable layer of paint. It is solvent-based. It sticks on to the surface like a sticky, thick layer of gummy paint, but then when it dries; it has a nice level finish. It has an average hiding ability, but it can hide in one coat if it is thickly applied. It has a good bonding capacity. Rubber paint is versatile and sticks to such materials as wax paper and plastics. It leaves the existing flexibility of the wax paper or plastic bag intact. If it is applied to a thin cotton swab, the result is almost like paint on sail cloth. It takes the paint anything between one and three days to fully cure (dry), but this drying time depends upon the temperature. It is used for creating whitewall tyres and sealing the fabric hulls of boats. It is also used to seal the seams around windows. Rubber paint is normally available in the two most sober colours, namely white and black.

Hyperseal Inc makes rubber paint.

Their paint is non-toxic and has very low VOC. Plus the rubber used in the paint is recycled from waste tires.
