There are many different types of tools that can be used for weeding in the garden. However, the specifics of these tools depend on the type of weeding that you are doing, for example, are you cutting down ivy, ripping up deep roots or just pottering around the flowerbeds? Below are a list and explanation of some of the different tools that can be used for weeding.

  • Hands
These are the most common tools that can be used for gardening. Although it is always advisable to wear gloves to prevent skin getting cut or stung from nettles, using your hands can actually mean you do the most efficient work. When you are working around delicate flowers and plants, uprooting weeds by hand can ensure that little or no damage is done, which can sometimes not be avoided when using sharp metal tools.

  • Scrapers
Scrapers are metal blades that are attached to a long metal rod. They are mainly used to scathe the ground, and the blade is used to remove any weeds. If the blade is rather sharp then large clumps of weeds can be easily removed.

  • Weeding knives
This tool can only be used for gardening as they have been specifically designed to scrape, weed or cut around pavements and in cracks. They are an extremely versatile weeding tool.

  • Pavement tools
Unfortunately for gardeners, weeds can sprout up anywhere so manufacturers of tools have had to come up with new tools that are specially designed for working around concrete pavement and patios. The most commonly used pavement tool is a triangular hoe, which is perfect for use when weeds are appearing in between pavement lines.

  • Weed cutters
Weed cutters come in a variety of shapes such as a 'J' or 'C' shape made out of thin metal. The shape used often depends upon the exact job that it is required for. Most weed cutters on the market are made with wooden handles, but plastic handles have begun to make an appearance as they are more durable.
