No matter what your reason, that would be illegal. I know if somone broke into my house and threw a party I would be thoroughly PO'd. If you want to surprise him, have the party at your house. You can ask him to come over for some made up reason and then surprise him.
You might get shot as you illegally break into his home.
2 problems, you would be breaking and entering (can be a felony) and the tools you would need to pick the lock are also Illegal unless you are a licensed locksmith. I wouldn't recommend it.
