Super answers here. For me I'm always home by 5pm regular time or 7 pm daylight saving time.

Whether it is night or day you should always walk with confidence. Keep your back posture straight, shoulders back, head and chin up but not in a cocky way. Never "look" like a victim especially at night! Oh yah and always have your keys in your dominant hand ready to unlock the car as you are walking to your car. You do NOT want to be fumbling around your purse for keys at night. Plus they can be used as a weapon if you are attacked. Punch the perv in the eye with your key!

In your home, make sure doors and windows are secured and locked. If it makes you feel any better, get a deadbolt lock that needs a key to lock it. Shove a chair under the door handle if you're really frightened. Go outside and see if you have any shrubs, weeds, flowers that can conceal someone hiding by your windows / doors.

When you are outside at night, always be aware of your surroundings. Don't have your head down in your phone - you will be easy pickings for someone that is bored and wants to mess with you. Park in lighted areas. Hold your keys so that one key sticks out from your fist, in case you need to jab someone in the eye. If you're in the mall, ask the security person to walk you to your car, if you're nervous, or go with friends so you have safety in numbers.

Be aware and be prepared.

Your own police department probably has a website and it probably has safety tips on there, along with areas with high crimes. You might check it out. Good luck, Megan! I hope this was what you were looking for.

Along with the other good suggestions you got here, be sure to always lock your car doors as soon as you get in. This should be done in the daytime as well.

I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood and leave my windows open at night. My Hound dog barks at any noise close to the house, so I'm safe. Plus I park this in the driveway sometimes and no one bothers me.

This is a secure building and you need a special device to get in. Plus, I'm on the second floor. You can't get any more secure than it is now. BTW, you don't want to try to rob me because I'll end up killing you.

Stay indoors...check under the bed, behind the shower curtain, and in the laundry basket.
