There is nothing more unattractive than a dirty, muddy pool. Not only is it unhygienic to swim in, it is also not very pleasant to look at.

So what are the solutions and how can you clear muddy or cloudy pool water?

  • First of all, you are going to have to buy a few supplies from the hardware store. These will include a chlorine testing kit, a pH testing kit, a pool vacuum, a scrubber and net to remove any large bits of dirt floating in the water.
  • The pH kit should come with a test tube. If it doesn't, just use a glass from the kitchen. Put a few drops of the testing solution into the test tube or glass and then add some pool water. Make sure you stir them together.
  • By looking at the color chart that comes with the kit, your will see the pH levels of the pool. It should be around the pH 7 mark, this is neutral, meaning the water is neither acidic nor alkali.
  • Next, you need to scrub the tiles in the pool to remove any dirt or grime that has been gathering there and making the water dirty.
  • Test the water with the chlorine and check it against the color chart.
  • After consulting the instructions on the kit, pour an appropriate amount of chlorine into the water and the leave the pool pump to run for around a day.
  • Once you have done this, if there are still any bits of dirt floating around you can remove them by using the vacuum.
  • Make sure to test the chlorine and pH levels before using the pool.
