The definition of "fruit" and "vegetable" can be confusing. The normal definition is that a fruit contains seeds, while a vegetable does not. This is easy for apple, orange, carrot & cabbage. It gets more confusing with tomato and capsicum (bell-pepper) which are technically a fruit but normally used as a vegetable, and for fig and pineapple which do not meet the requirements to be a "fruit" but are eaten as such.
A marrow is a fruit, from the botanical perspective. However in normal culinary usage it is considered as a vegetable.
