Sitting in a whirlpool at a spa, a gym or at a private home can be a very relaxing way to end a long day at the office, or to simply unwind. Nevertheless, there are some important precautions everyone should take when using a whirlpool, in order to ensure that it remains a safe experience.

As with most things, there is a slight risk of an accident when using a whirlpool. As such, one should exercise caution. Firstly, one must be very careful not to get earrings, necklaces, other objects, or body parts caught in the whirlpool's drain or suction device. Women with long hair should be especially careful.

Pregnant women, children under the age of 16 and people with rashes or open sores should avoid using a whirlpool. Additionally, it is best not to stay in a whirlpool for more than 15 minutes at a time and to leave immediately if you feel dizzy or light-headed.

Alcohol should not be consumed while in a whirlpool and for added security, it is safer to use a spa when accompanied by someone else, rather than when entirely alone.
