Putting up wallpaper can be a tricky task especially if done for the first time; there are several things that one has to look in to from putting up the wallpaper straight to ensuring that the design comes out neatly. People who are doing it for the first time would do well to select wallpaper with a simple pattern.

First and foremost one should ensure that the wall is free from any holes and irregularities in its surface. To put up the wallpaper in a straight line one would have to first select a spot from where one would commence preferably the wall behind the door where things are least conspicuous. Then take a corner of the wall as a starting point and mark a spot that is about an inch smaller than the width of the wallpaper.

Take a carpenter's level and draw a line passing through the mark from the base of the wall right up to the ceiling. While putting up the wallpaper align it with line drawn which would ensure that the wall paper is put up in a straight line from the start. One can then put up the next wallpaper using the earlier as an aligning line and so on.

If it's an old house, *first* do any re-leveling to the house itself. It's tearfully woeful to re-level after papering have the paper buckle.
