Depending on the situation and why the restraining order was approved in the first place, you may not necessarily have to hire a lawyer. In my case, one year ago, my ex lied and attempted to get me terminated from my job. I had also recently returned from Iraq. She lied to the judge saying I had PTSD, depressed and had a gun. The judge approved a permanent restraining order. I collected the facts, got an official letter from Veterans Affairs that stated I do not have PTSD and I am not depressed. I also do not own a gun. I wrote a letter to the judge along with copies of my facts and letters from my commanders. The judge recently reviewed the case and dropped the restraining order on me. Her case is still under review for commiting perjury.

You would have to hire an attorney and have the judge review your request and the reason for the restraining order.
