Is there a difference between “re-roofing” and “roof restoration”? I have always thought they were the same thing.

The term “re-roofing” essentially refers to the process of tearing down the current roof for the purpose of installing a new one. Re-roofing is preferred in cases when the roof damage is too severe for any repair to be worth the expense.

On the other hand, “roof restoration” is basically synonymous to “roof repair”. In roof restoration, the roof doesn’t have to be torn down completely; only the damaged areas need to be repaired and brought back to their original condition. I know this because we recently had our roof restored by a company in London called McCann Roofing, and they explained it to us after determining that it was more cost-effective to do a restoration rather than a total re-roofing.
