A suitable insecticide is a concentrate in liquid form called Abate. It is safe for use around garden pets, and is known to kill a high amount of larvae very quickly. You cannot actually control the number of black flies that might enter or ruin your garden, but you most certainly can repel them, and deter them from coming back. Any product that contains the substance DEET, and even insect repellents like OFF can be quite useful in scaring the black flies away from your garden during daytime at least. Black flies are the most annoying of pests in the garden. If you have some kind of vegetation in your yard, it is prone to attack by black flies. Black flies are notorious for disfiguring plants, flowers and shrubbery and have been known to even transmit certain viruses that can eradicate the entire crop. You can thwart the growth of black flies by practicing good husbandry and undertaking measures to improve the quality of the soil. You should clear away the waste and debris after harvesting crops, as this will most likely attract black flies to devour the waste remains. It is also recommended to practise adequate weed control, as these are also a draw for black flies.
