How To Remove A 96 Blazer Radio?

I just got done doing this myself. In all, it took about ten or fifteen minutes to remove the dash, and less to put it back together. You'll need a phillips screwdriver, a Torx bit (I forget the size), and a 7mm socket, preferably on a nut driver.

First, remove the two screws above the gauges. Next, remove the two Torx screws below the steering column. Then take out the ashtray and remove the little 7mm hex head on the left.

In theory, the trim piece that covers the gauges, radio, and climate control should be free, but it seemed like loosening the remaining 4 hex head screws on the bottom of the lower trim panel, down where your knees would go, made removal much easier. There's a single Torx head screw on the lower panel by the emergency brake that you can see once you loosen the bottom one - I don't know if you have to, but I loosened it, too.

At this time you can start carefully pulling on the trim piece around the gauges and radio and it should come free. Now, while I was removing the trim piece from mine, the biggest problem was getting it around the steering wheel. Shifting the shifter down into 1 gives you some extra wiggle room, so does holding down the tilt wheel a little farther than it will hold on its own. Eventually I wiggled it free from the pinch point between the column and the gauges. Watch the wires over where the light switches are to the left of the column. For me to work on the radio, I didn't need to remove them - I was able to set the trim piece up on the dash out of the way, but you could disconnect the wires if need be.

Now there should be eight little hex head screws visible around the climate control and radio. You'll need to remove all of them to pull the radio out. If you replace the radio, chances are you'll retain the shelf attached to the bottom of it, so make sure you don't just discard it.

Reassembly is pretty much just the opposite. Watch out wiggling the trim piece back into place around the column, and make sure all of your snaps line up. Don't force it in or you'll bend the prongs sideways. Re-tighten all the screws in the order you pulled them out - don't forget any that you loosened, either.

Hope it helps, since I didn't find much help available online when I tried to do it.
