Thanks! I had been searching for some sort of gauge or knob to turn and am so glad you mentioned the metal plates. Also, knowing to adjust both the top and bottom thermostats helped. Mine is small, only 30 gallons, but it has two. I was able to do this in less than 10 minutes.
