An electric blanket consists of heating coils in the form of insulated wires sewn into the inner fabric. The wires are arranged in rows and the internal temperature is stabilized with the help of a rheostat that not only measures the temperature of the blanket but also measures body temperature and accordingly sets the heating process. This assures heating at an appropriate temperature without certain spots being overheated some blankets come with an adjustable rheostat controller separate from the blanket.

Electric blankets come in different configurations there are under blankets to be used beneath the bed and over blankets that can be used as a bed sheet, there are also pre heating blankets that warm the bed before it is occupied and must be disconnected later, and all night blankets that can be used throughout without requiring to be switched off. Electric blankets need to be stored safely to ensure that their interior structure is not damaged, also old blankets need to be checked every three years by the manufacturers or an electrician.

Much like heating pads, electric blanketsblanketsuse an insulated wire or heating element inserted into a fabric that heats when it is plugged in. The temperature control unit, located between theblanketand theelectricaloutlet, manages the amount of current entering into the heat elements in theblanket

There are heating elements embedded in the blanket that emit heat when an electric current is passed through them.
