It depends on what kind of shingle you want: The average three-tab shingles cost between $19 to $22 a bundle, so for a square you are looking at between $57 and $66. The life of the shingle is also a cost factor, the longer it is in years, the more expensive it will be, and if you get a heavier grade shingle, rather than the general composite one, you will have to pay more, too. Different companies also tend to have different prices so it certainly pays to shop round before you buy.

If you are having your roof repaired or replaced by professionals, don’t just accept the first quote that you are given unless you are absolutely confident that the roofer you are using is professional and reputable, after all, it’s not everyone who can get up there and check that the roof that they say is beyond repair, actually is.

When a roofer takes a look at a roof to determine what is necessary, they take into account a few things. These include: How many layers of shingle need to be removed; is there any damage to the decking that is underneath the shingle; is there any damage, perhaps caused by water, around any structural features there may be like chimneys, skylights or turbines and how large an area needs to be replaced.

He will also have to factor into the price that you are given the cost of other materials such as nails, roofing felt and flashing. Structural features may need some repair, and there is also the chance that some fascias may need some attention. Waste removal needs to be accounted for, and of course, labor costs need to be included.

It is because of all these variables, that it is advised that you get quotes from a few different roofers before work commences.

There are many types of shingles on the market, but the basic 25yr. 3-tab shingles is approximately $ 27.00 per bundle. Three bundles equal one square.
