Bed sheets should be changed once a week ideally, though there are people who leave them for a month between changing. There is no rule, but you run less risk of getting ill if you keep sheets clean and hygienic.

Obviously illness is a factor, if you have a flu bug and are sweating excessively, it is often necessary to change bedding more often, but that's just common sense anyway.

We all shed millions of skin cells each day, and many of these are shed while we are in bed. These attract dust mites, and although they don't directly hurt us, their droppings can trigger asthma and cause eye irritation.

Some people change the bed every other day according to a recent survey, but this is possibly a little excessive. At the opposite end of the scale, one person said that although he knows he should change his bed every week, he really can't be bothered to change it more often than every six months!

I'm glad I won't be staying at his house!  :-)
