My plates all match because I threw all of the old mismatched plates away and bought new a few years ago. They just didn't stack very well in the cabinet. I have about 30 different patterns of silverware though. Like Yin's kids, mine used the silverware for screw drivers, lock picks and everything else. A lot was thrown away too, in the kid's minds, it's easier to throw them out than to wash them.
Yep! I sure do! Cos I like it that way!
Dear Jan,
Well of course it is all mismatched, nothing matches...except I love the lovely hodgepodge of colors/patterns...perfect solution for someone who cannot make up their mind!
Yes ! All my paper plates match ! The silverware ? Some of it does. LOL
Oh my!!! LOL! I have a 19 year old, soon to be 13 year old, 9 year old and 2 year old..... There has been a child at the age of "no glass" and "throwing away the forks so I can help mommy clean up" for the last two decades...... I am lucky to find two plates that are glass (or mel mac) that match! LOL! Heck our favorite set of plates we have used in the recent past started out as Frisbee's my dad gave us from his work! LOLOLOLOL! Yin is not a picky girl! (Besides, I HATE cleaning up broken glass. I am very meticulous at how I pick up broken glass!)
Simple answer money. Buying a brand new set for special occasions can be expensive. For a while my sister-in-law, who did not like the pattern on our silverware would purposely chuck hers in the trash while helping clean up the kitchen. She thought we would eventually buy a better set. Plates get chipped and broken from "wear and tear". Needing a service for eight and an everyday set. Last year, we purchased two service for four sets. They don't match but they do coordinate. So now we have matching stuff.
Most of my dinnerware matches, but it's not in great shape anymore. The silverware is three or four different patterns.
I have three sets of dinnerware. I have a formal china set that was my grandmother's. I have a cheap all black set that I got at Walmart not long after my husband and I first got married. I keep t just in case I need extras at some point. And I have a set of Fiestaware dishes that are mismatched colors. I just like the cheerfulness and playfulness of all the different colors.
I have two sets of silverware, but only use one set when I have company.
Plates, no. I was allowed to pick out any set of dishes I wanted as a housewarming present a few years ago so they're all matching. Silverwear, kind of. A quick glance into the drawer where I keep the "eating utensils" shows that the majority of it is from the same set, but there's also quite a few random things like chopsticks, a spoon my friend left here, a crab fork I accidentally took from a restaurant, and other things people brought with them on holidays and never collected.
