  • The
motor coupler may be broken. Many Whirlpool®-manufactured washers use a
small, relatively inexpensive motor coupling. It's plastic and rubber
and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the
transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails.
You may need to replace it.The clutch
may be worn. If your washer is a GE, it may use a clutch to come up to
the proper spin speed. As the clutch wears out, it may prevent the unit
from spinning well or at all. If the clutch is worn, you need to
replace it. For this job, you probably want to hire a qualified
    appliance repair technician.
  • The
spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components
allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is
the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call
    a qualified appliance repair technician.
  • A belt
may be broken. Many washing machines have one or two belts. If a belt
is broken or badly worn, you need to replace it with a genuine belt
from the manufacturer. (Some washing machine belts are designed with
special characteristics not found in automotive belts.)

It is either the motor you would know this because you would not hear it whirring. Could just be a belt. And last but not least there is a transmission in that model that tends to quit early in life.

I'm having a similar problem, but with a catch. My washer agitates and drains just fine but won't spin. Hears the catch - when empty, it spins just fine. Would this be a belt, coupling, or transmission issue? Don't want to start tearing it apart until I know something more specific to my problem.

It is probably the drain pump.  If it goes bad the washer won't spin either because it is still full of water.  There is a sensor that keeps it from spinning before the water gets below a certain level.  This happened to mine also.  It isn't all that hard to change.  Google "troubleshooting a drain pump for a washing machine" to get repair instructions or diagrams for free.

This is due to some trouble in machine that is making hurdles in spinning of your washing machine. You can check the motor that is responsible for functioning of Kenmore sewing machine.

This is the coupling. It's $20 part you can get at any appliance parts house in town. Only need a 1/4 inch wrench or socket and a screwdriver to pop off the clamps holding the motor to the transmission.. Real simple to fix!

You could call the service dept. At Sears and ask this question. Otherwise ask a friend who is familiar with such problems. I know, they're never around when you need them!

Something is either broken or malfunctioning . Either a switch is not sending the signal to the motor to begin it's cycle or the belt is broken if it has one. Or something has come loose from a pulley to a electrical connection on the switches or motor. I can not give you the exact answer because the machine would have to be physically seen in order to test these possible causes. That is why you need either a repairmen or a repair training. I hope this helps.
