How Do You Tell If A Machine Is A Low Shank Or A High Shank? I Have A Kenmore 158.1400 And I Can't Find This Information In The Manual.

If you place the presser foot in the down position and measure from the bottom of the foot to the screw hole where it attaches you will get either a 1-1/4 inch measure or a 3/4 inch measure. If it is the former, you have a high shank machine. If it is the latter, it is a low shank machine. The more modern machines can be either/or/slant which really gets confusing.
