Yes salt and alcohol does help to dehydrate them. Bed bugs also hate the texture of salt. A professional who came to spray my house told me this. Put salt in corners, cracks in wood floors, and around the border of carpet but this is a form of prevention. If you have bed bugs you need to hire a professional.
If you are getting bites put lots of vaseline or petroleum jelly on at night they will not bite you. Just a couple of tips to help. When I had those things it was a nightmare but I'm happy because now I know how to prevent the situation from happening again.
Also you may want to consider purchasing a eureka enviro steamer. Heat kills bed bugs and the eureka steamer is the only one on the market that heats up to 300 degrees. I purchased mine from amazon for $60 or you can get one from walmart for $99. There is one for hard wood floors and one for carpet floors.
The guy from orkin who treated my house also told me not to use bleach but use products such as pine sol, rubbing alcohol, and lysol with strong lemon scent, because these products sort of leave oil residue and strong scents behind that bed bugs hate. Good Luck
