Leaving clothing in the machine wet is really not a good idea. Moisture breeds bacteria which results in mold. A few hours at best is probably the limit. Not only does leaving it result in possible bacterial growth, it also reduces the freshness and cleanliness of most materials. If you forget your laundry too long, wash it again.
