Use gel stain. General Finishes or Verathane brand are best. NOT MINWAX. Remove doors. Clean them really well then rub down with mineral spirits. Then apply gel stain with cheap chip brushes in several light coats. Wait 24 hours and coat with a wipe-on poly.
