They usually cannot be repaired. If it has split from freezing because the hose was left attached, preventing it from draining, it will need to be removed and replaced. They are designed to be installed so that the body of the device will drain out when turned off.
Replacing one can be a problem since they extend far back into or under the house wall, 10-15 inches in most cases. Access to it's attachment point is usually in the crawl space or basement.
