Bear in mind that you will also be able to find replacement hose ends and that you also have the option of replacing a leaky seal. To fix a garden hose reels which leaks at connector you will first need to detach the hose or the other devices. You will then need to lube each of the threads thoroughly by means of Vaseline or petroleum jelly.

When you reattach the same you are more likely to see fewer leaks rather than none. In case the hose has a tear or hole, a hose repair coupling will be needed to repair. For this you need to turn off the water leading to the hose, and then cut out the portion which is faulty. You need to then splice in the repair coupling; the label will give you all the detailed instructions you need.

I recommend unrolling the hose with the water turned on (this makes it easier) and with a sprayer connected to the end so the leaks will be easy to spot. If the leak(s) are on the end simply cut off and replace with hose mending kit(Yes, from The Home Depot), and your done.

If their are many holes in the middle area, you will have a very short hose and maybe getting a new one is the answer.

Tip1) cheap hoses are false economy.
Oh yeah, all hoses are 5/8 unless they are for something specific like air or gas.

Splice it, cut out leaking part and either get new end or a coupling device to reconnect cut ends and hose will be as good as new but youll need to know your hoses diamater before going to hardware store as these devices are made for specific diameters

The main problem with the majority of hose reels/carts on the market today is that they come with plastic parts, including adaptors, caps, connectors, couplings, ends, menders, shut-offs, etc.  It doesn't take an engineer to figure out that plastic and metal don't exactly go together.  I have owned probably half of dozen in my day, and I can honestly say that all of them leaked to some extent.  While this might not bother some people, the water from even a small leak can wreak havoc on your home's foundation over time.  Bottom line: Either spend hundreds of dollars on the reels that come with high quality METAL parts or, better yet, play it old school and buy yourself a five dollar hose hanger at your local hardware store--guaranteed NOT to leak! Yes, it's not as convenient, but after having to spend close to a hundred dollars repairing the foundation behind my hose reels, I chose the simpler, CHEAPER route!
