The majority of vacuum cleaners require some form of maintenance; whether it is a change of bag or cleaning of a pipe or something else which is necessary for it to function.

The Dirt Devil is also without exception. You may want to store an extra belt just in case your first one does break. You also should have a manual so refer to this if all else fails with your vacuum.

Firstly, you need to turn it off and unplug everything so you do not have any health and safety issues. You will then need to lay your vacuum flat on the floor and make sure that you carefully turn it upside down in order to gain access to the underside of the cleaner.

Now, with a screwdriver, remove the three screws located on the underside, holding the nozzle guard in place. The screws are located at both positions on the left and right of the brush roll and underneath the left wheel.

You then need to take out the nozzle guard which is the plastic apparatus storing the brush roll. After you have taken out the brush roll by lifting it straight out, set it to one side and remove the belt.

You should then take the new belt in your hand and place it on the motorshaft, located underneath the left wheel. Put the other end of the new belt over the brush roll on the side without bristles. Carefully align the brush roll so the side that holds the belt is now underneath the motorshaft accordingly. You will have to ensure it is not twisted or tangled before you switch on. Finally rotate the brush roll in order to make sure it is properly fitted.

Congratulations, you have replaced the belt of your Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner!

You have to take the screws out. The plastic piece that covers the brush is the piece that needs to come off, that whould be all one piece, and the belt is right under it, it should be to the left on two separate rods. Hope this helps.

The plastic on the bottom says remove 4 screws and I see only 2 and they are really deep, hard to get to. This is not very clear. I will try your method. The next vacuum cleaner I buy will be one with more explicit instructions--preferably written where you can see them..

Some models have a pin in the back that you have to slide over with a screwdriver. It doesn't look like it will work, but keep trying. Slip the belt over the edge of the pin then put the belt on the beater bar. It will be tight.

I am sorry, that was my bad, lol. The screws will be two toward the front, and two back further. Which are equally hard to get out, for the love of it all, I don't know why they have to mess with us like that. Lol Why not just use clips to keep the thing in place? Lol
