I just installed a brand new water heater. It also discharges after every shower usage into a bucket. I have not changed any settings from the factory. This is the second one I have replaced in the last 3 months. The other started to leak into the collection tray under the tank.

To put a permanent end to your problem and have a solid solution, you will have to replace the whole discharge tube of your water heater.Otherwise even if you try to repair it.it will still start leaking after sometime.

The water is leaking from the temperature and pressure relief valve. The leak is caused by:1- the spring in the valve is weak, 2- the temperature of the tank is exceeding 210 degrees, 3- the house pressure is spiking to more than 150 lbs. Check the tank and set it at no more than 120 degrees. Check your house water pressure with a gauge that has two needles. With this gauge, you can see what the highest pressure is without having to continually watch it. If the temperature is 120 or less and the pressure is under100lbs.,replace the relief valve.
