I Have A Carrier 58MCA Upflow Propane Gas Furnace. I Can Get It Started And Heating Then After Several Minutes It Stops Heating And The Blower Keeps Running. I Have Restarted It Several Times And It Does The Same Thing. What Can Be Wrong?

When the burner flames blows back into the ignition compartment the roll out switch shuts the furnace down . If your rollout switch is tripped you probably have a stopped up heat exchanger (exhaust air is blocked) or a leaking heat exchanger (cracked). You can check the outside exhaust, sometimes it can be clogged by ice. I would recommend calling in a service technician to find out why the rollout switch tripped. Never  by pass that switch, it is a safety devise. Good luck!

Dannmarr: Once again thank you for responding to my question. I looked at the end of the PVC pipe (outside exhaust) and it had no ice build up at the end. I will get an extension ladder tomorrow and see if I can see further back in it. If it is not plugged up then I probably will call a technician. I know the one time that it was heating, before it shut down, I was outside under the exhaust and there was a strong gas smell coming from it. I had never noticed that before. Happy holidays.

It is quite possibly the thermal coupling, which is the small copper tubing that protrudes into the pilot lite flame. Its purpose is to keep the gas from coming on if the pilot light is not lit, but when it goes bad it gives similar symptoms to what you explained.

Check your filter, if it is clogged and restricting flow, the burners will shut off. Try removing the filter and run your furnace. If it runs without any issues, change the filter. Good luck!

Dannmarr: The filter is new. I took it out completely and same thing. Error code is 13. Seems everything I read leads to inadequate combustionable air flow. It also talks about flame rollout switch may be open or defective. How would it be open? How would I fix it? How do I locate it and identify it? I have a owners manual with a diagram but I can't make heads or tails out of where it is located in furnace. Do I disassemble furnace to see if incoming air pipe is blocked in some way? Thanx
