Depending on how much light this room gets - you should choose a mild color, not too 'emotional', so my suggestion is vanilla yellow or similar, but not too white - it is too 'hard' for the eye and the contrasts. Things to also have in mind, choosing color in a room, is what kind of emotion you want to get, when you enter the room. Sounds like you like a bit drama in your life, with 2 strong different colors - try to stay with those and just add beige/vanilla or darker aqua blue or milder red - otherwise the head becomes dizzy with too many options for the eye to rely on...
