If you want to redo the paint yourself, make sure you use a high quality outdoor paint. You can normally get the lettering redone professionally for about £30 depending on the stone type as well as the lettering type. You may also want to check with local paint dealers or trades warehouses and headstone dealers such as funeral parlors.

Lithichrome is a company that do offer paint for stone in a variety of colors including bright gold. They offer a variety of sizes from 2oz through to gallons and prices can be found when contacting them by phone. The number is available on their website which also suggests that these paints should be applied with minimum brush strokes due to affecting the adhesion of the paint.

Alternatively, Blackfriar Paint offers a gold metallic exterior paint that does not need any protective glazing. It is essentially designed for wood and metals but this should work, at least as a temporary option. Before applying any paint however, make sure that the remaining paint is removed as any flakes will affect the new coats. This could prove quite tricky as not to cause any damage to the stone, so use something light and be very careful with the edges.

Humbrol paint is always a good option failing any other. Though it is usually used for and designed for being applied to models such as airplanes and miniatures, this paint is long lasting and normally fairly efficient. It is not expensive to buy and comes in small tubs, perfect for lettering.

I would however stress that getting this done professionally would probably be worth any of the cost if you are looking for a long lasting effect as the stone and lettering type will affect paint durability.
