Kinda Christ-massy, eh? Sorry, couldn't resist....forgive me!!!
The best color depends on how long you plan to have the red carpeting, and how long you plan on keeping the green table...
If you plan on keeping them both forever and ever, that is, not planning on purchasing new carpeting or a new table, then you could choose a wall color to play up either the carpeting or the table!
HERES THE TRICKY PART: What you are calling 'red": Is it a warm red, with yellow/orange undertones, or a true 'blue' red, like candy apple red? This would determine the final wall color you select!!
If the 'red' carpet has a warm, or yellow undertone, you WOULD NOT want the pink tones I recommend below, but rather a shade of pastel orange; a very very light orange...
The pink blush type color would clash like crazy with the warm red!! Whereas, the warm orangy tone would 'go with' the warm red carpeting...
If the carpeting, which would be my first choice, you could go into a color such as a soft, soft pink.....'blush' pink, but today there are so many names for one color!! And, since red and green are complementary colors, that is, they go together well, you could use this soft pink and it'd still look good with the table!!
Now for the fun part.....please take the time to make sure you get the right shade of pink or orange; ....at the paint store, get samples of at least 2 or 3 shades of the color that interests you...
Then paint a piece of WHITE poster board, say an area about 2 ft x 2 ft, on separate pieces of poster board.....
Now put them in the room, and leave them there for at least 3 days..
Place them where the most light hits them...
You should be doing this as then you will be able to see how the colors react to the different types of lighting that enter the room throughout the day and night....at night, of course, with lamps, etc...
PLEASE take the time to do this....it's really fun to do and will get you the best color for your needs...sure beats grabbing the first color you see, painting the walls, and then regretting that 'it sure doesnt look like it did at the store'....
I would like to know what color you decide on...and how it all turns out..
BUT I BET YOU NEVER GET BACK TO ME>.....but please do, as I'd really like to know!!
Have fun! Be creative!!
