The procedure to install carpet on stairs is pretty simple. All you need is a stair tool, stapler, awl, hammer, razor knife, carpet knife, power stretcher, measuring tape, safety glasses and work gloves. The carpet has to be installed from the bottom to the top of the steps and has to be measured well in advance.
First a piece of padding has to be cut and applied to the horizontal surface of the steps. Now, starting from the bottom, have the end of the carpet stapled to the bottom of the vertical part of the first step, and then the underside of the protruding ledge of the first step. Use the power stretcher or crab stretcher to pull the slack out of the carpet and repeat the stapling procedure on the subsequent stairs. The stair tool is used at the corners.
