Thanks for tip. Bought one from Jupiter Blue at 730mm square and it took two of us only 15mins to fit. My only slight issue was, because I have a telescopic ladder and only 100mm joists, I had to raise the ladder fitting by 20mm.

Pretty chuffed now and shouldn't have any more suitcase storage issues anymore!

Installing a loft hatch is a relatively easy task but it really depends on competence using your carpentry skills.

You need to make sure that location of the hatch is between main beams. If you do have to go through and main ceiling beams make sure afterwards you create supporting beams each side of the hatch.

The easiest way is to create a small wooden frame the size and shape that your hatch will be. This will provide more strength for the hatch sides.

This method can be used to create a hatch door on top of the frame. Mainy hatchs back in the 70's have doors which push up from underneath and have attaching hooks.

If you intend to add a ladder make sure you screw it to a side with most strength.

Hi,

I actually bought a made to measure loft hatch from a company in West Yorkshire that supplied it to fit the hole without any modification, it's fab and was really easy to fit

If you have 600mm centres (565mm gap) the easiest method is to fix two noggins at the desired length e.g. 762mm and buy a premade loft hatch to fit. You can also buy a made to measure loft hatch to suit the opening you have. If measured accurately this will take 10 mins to fit. We fit the products on a regular basis and get from http://www.jupiterblue.co.uk however I am aware that this is one of 2 sources for a bespoke loft hatch, the other has a window handle and doesn't sit well with us.
