It’s not difficult to replace a garage door cable, and you can pick them up quite easily at home improvement store.
First of all, open the garage door (and make sure that no one tries to shut it while you are working on it).
Find the loop end of the cable and place it onto the screw that is in the bottom left-hand panel of the door, and place the set pin through the hole in the screw. This will hold the cable in the right place.
Place a ladder underneath the left-hand drum, and insert this drum against the bearing tightly. Get it into place by tightening the set screws. Once this is done, draw the cable up to the drum making sure that it has a straight run and that there are no kinks in it.
Place the cable into the drum and turn the drum towards you, pulling it down at the same time. Once you have made sure that the cable is turning into the grooves on the drum, you can carry on turning the drum until the cable is super tight.
Wedge the drum either between the wall or the ceiling using a vice grip. Once you have done this, you can repeat the process with the right hand drum, but don’t tighten the set screws on this one until after the cable is so tight you can strum it.
If each cable doesn’t have the same amount of tension, simply adjust on the right had drum by turning in the opposite direction until both cables are the same.
