Washing dishes is the physical act of cleaning dirty plates, cups, silverware, etc.
Doing laundry means physically putting your clothes into the washing machine to be cleaned and then the dryer to dry.

It means you have to get them clean so that you can use them again. I mean unless you can afford to throw this stuff out every day, then you need to make sure they are cleaned for use. Hope this helps.
