Depends on the damage.

If you just want to restain ... those citrus paint strippers work well.  Coat the floor with them, then let sit overnight, and remove.

If they are small nicks/scratches ... It could just be a matter of sanding and restaining/sealing the floor.

If they are deeper ... You may have to use a planer, rather than a sander.

If the boards are rotted ... you'll have to cut out the area and replace.

Thanks! The floors are in excellent condition, except for some small gray spots where the dishwasher drips a bit on the floor when I unload it. I didn't notice until it was too late. I'm going to try to sand and stain the patches.

If they're just spots … I'd try hand scrubbing them first, with something like SoftScrub.

The show "This Old House" recommends removing the problem boards.  This seems like a huge project.  The areas are only about a quarter size and are around the dishwasher and are caused by water.  I'm going to be selling my house.
